Day Four: second day with the kids

Today was another exhausting but fun day with the kids. After welcome and singing,  Dana and I did the Soundbyte on the Ten Commandments in the morning-which was pretty nerve-racking but we got through it! Then we did craft and group time with our assigned age groups-which was hard-work trying to help all the little ones, but also very rewarding seeing their faces when the craft was done. The afternoon session involved face painting and nail polish-for both the kids and the leaders. The kids really enjoyed "painting" the leaders faces, arms and legs.

I have enjoyed teaching the kids about God today and can't wait to do it again tomorrow. The kids were fun to have around. It was fun to see the kids jumping and dancing around although it was challenging for me to get everyone to join in. The day was exhausting but it was filled with many amazing things. After getting back to the sports centre, which is where we are staying, I have decided to take a shower along with Ruben and Daniel. We stayed in the showers for more than thirty minutes because there were two 'wild' dogs outside and almost attacked us. (No students were harmed in the shower session - from the Mums at LBM)

Day 3: First day of the holiday club!

It was not only the children of Leonora                                                                                                    who enjoyed having their nails painted!

First day of the kids club over, to say the least we are exhausted! But had such a great time meeting all the kids, getting to know them, organising group crafts and activities with them, getting into some singing and dancing, and becoming familiar with what the week ahead will bring! It was an early morning start for the team to prepare for the day ahead, luckily though we finally had multiple showers!! So with Ebuka's 10 toasts, and Simon's multiple packets of mi-goreng devoured, we were off to the rec center to set up! The kids arrived as soon as the doors were opened and it was off into our separate age groups to get started with some activities.

It was an eventful day full of many things. My stomach muscles were still sore from laughing so hard last night. And today has been full of sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much laughter. Tonight we have again laughed so much telling stories ranging from our funniest injuries to what happens when you make your younger siblings angry.
Anyways.... To get back on track we had our first session today with the little kids from all around town. It was quite eventful. It started with an introduction to the colour coded groups that we had and then Jaz and I had to do our introduction talk. AHHhhhhhh. It was scary!
I love so many of the little children there and I wish I could adopt them all but it will never happen. I no longer do care if I come back with nits or anything else because they are all so pretty and beautiful. Again I wish I could adopt them all.
I had many little followers throughout the day, some talking a lot and some talking little but their presence was lovely to be around.  Jaz and Simon were in my group and he soon was loved by two little boisterous girls who called him Mount Simon and climbed all over him. I don't think he was quite prepared for their very possessive love for him! In the afternoon we did face painting, nail painting, biscuit decorating and colouring which was great fun. The little children (like 3-4 years old) were the cutest and just sat their smiling at you. The evening was a movie night where both parents and children were invited and it was great fun as well. I still am praising the Lord that we have access to hot showers and yummy food!!!! Although you get really hungry even before lunch is getting prepared.
Much love to our parentals and siblings, and all who are joining in listening to our journey here in Leonora,

Day 1: Traveling

It was an early morning for all of us going on the Leonora Bush Mission Trip. Most of us were up before 5am getting ready for a long and exciting adventure ahead. Just after 6am the bus left from Perth and we headed straight towards Tammin. After about an hour, the city soon became the country and we knew that we were on our way. In Tammin, we stopped for a late breakfast and a short break. Then we headed straight back onto the bus and just kept going. After a few more hours had passed we headed into Bodallin for a lunch break. From there we headed straight to Coolgardie. To entertain ourselves along the way we played games, sang songs, watched movies and chatted. Once we arrived in Coolgardie we had a quick stretch and play on the play ground and then we kept going to Kalgoorlie where we had dinner. After we had dinner we prepared ourselves for the last hike of the journey. We rolled up into Leonora at about 7:15pm and we set up for the night. Overall it was a fantastically long journey and we saw many interesting and beautiful things along the way such as the sunrise, sunset, dust storms and the hot beaming sun.

Day 2: Setting up for the big day.........

It was a good morning after a good night sleep which we all needed. We left at 9:15 for church to start the big day ahead. After the service, we headed back to the Sport Centre, to change for the rest of the day and then we headed back out to get supplies for setting up for Day 3. We unloaded the bus with the supplies, and started to set up the craft room and bringing in tables for lunch. We had some amazing lunch cooked by Mrs Mellado and Mrs Bryant, and after lunch we started on the painting of the back drops for the play. When we finally finished the backdrops, we went back and got changed for the late church service, for fellowship and worship but we had dinner first, then we went to church, we came back after the service. We came back and relaxed, then we finally got a working shower and toilets tonight and then I blogged.

Leonora Bush Mission 2014

The Leonora Bush Mission Trip 2014 will run from Saturday 27th September to Saturday the 4th October. We are heading to the Goldfields town of Leonora to run a holiday club for the children of the area. LBM has been running annually for 22 years. The team is currently made up of volunteers from various Perth churches and some Year 10 students from Rehoboth Christian College. LBM is supported & funded by donations from the Leonora Shire Council, local businesses, mining companies, churches and through fundraising. LBM was started by Mr David Maclennan and it continues to be led by Dave and his wife Avril.

During the holiday club the children enjoy singing, games, skits, craft, Bible stories, sport, face painting & more…

This year’s theme is ‘MegaQuest’ and through it the children will learn about God’s plan of salvation via the theme of a computer game. Each day a stage in God’s plan is mirrored by the next level of the game.

Please pray for us as we finish preparations for the trip and for safe travel on Saturday the 27th September.

Remember to look out for our posts between the 28/9/14 and the 3/10/14.
